A trap, often referred to as an odour trap, is a bent or curved piece of pipe that is installed underneath washbasins, kitchen sinks, showers or bathtubs. Its main task is to prevent gases and odours from the waste water and sewer system from entering the interior by creating a permanent water barrier. This water barrier is created by the characteristic shape of the siphon, which always keeps a certain amount of water in the pipe. In addition to the odour barrier, the trap also serves to catch small foreign bodies that accidentally get into the drain, which protects against blockages in the downstream pipe system. Modern siphons are available in various designs, including classic tubular siphons, space-saving bottle siphons and flexible corrugated pipe siphons, which are ideal for tight installation situations. High-quality models are made of durable materials such as stainless steel or chrome-plated brass, which are not only functional but also visually appealing.
Choosing the right trap depends on several factors, including the location, the available space and the type of drain or sanitary system. The decisive factor is therefore whether it is for washbasins, kitchen sinks, showers, bathtubs or other areas. In areas with limited space or little room, such as under washbasins with drawers, so-called space-saving siphons offer an ideal solution, as they are particularly compact and make optimum use of the available space. For visible installations, such as in design-oriented bathrooms or high-quality kitchens, chrome-plated or stainless steel siphons not only provide functional services, but also emphasise the elegant fixtures and fittings, such as our siphon made of high-gloss polished V4A stainless steel, which is also available with a matt polished surface as an alternative. Models with a cleaning opening enable uncomplicated maintenance and prevent blockages by making it easy to remove deposits. Stainless steel is also easy to clean and hygienic. There are also special odour traps that are particularly effective at retaining unpleasant odours - an important feature, especially in heavily frequented areas such as catering kitchens or public sanitary facilities. Depending on the requirements, various designs are available, such as tubular siphons or bottle siphons, each of which offers specific advantages: While tubular siphons are particularly reliable against odours due to their design, bottle siphons are more space-saving and easier to clean. The right choice not only contributes to the functionality, but also to the longevity of the entire sanitary installation.
